Greetings to a new installment to MISSIVES TO THE ETHER where I share a radio show I have started with Wave Farm/ WQXC where I chat with awesome people and read their tarot on air. My first guest is my old friend from my Portland, OR days, Seth Lorinczi. He and his partner, Juliana Bright, had a wonderful musical project called The Golden Bears and The Quails before that. He has also played with Modest Mouse and in The Corin Tucker Band but I have come to love his wonderful Substack Dispatches from the Fringe which ruminates on punk community, psychedelics and ancestral trauma. It’s fantastic and he has been touring his first memoir, Death Trip, that is centered around all these subjects to tell the story about how he came to work with his family’s Holocaust trauma with focused use of psilocybin. His writing appears in The Guardian, Maggot Brain, DoubleBlind, Narratively, Portland Monthly, the San Francisco Chronicle and Portland Oregonian, as well as entries in anthologies by Hozac Books and Akashic Books and other publications. I mention this in our conversation, but I really appreciate his portraits of people he knew in the DC punk scene in the ‘80s, and how they balance perspective and empathy not only for his subjects but for himself. As of late, this has resonated with me as I find myself looking at my own phase of “misspent youth” with a different lens as I realize how much the ethos of that time is where I find myself searching for real sources of power to get through all of the hard times of late. These images are from the Marc Jacobs Fall 2024 collection but have sat backlogged in my Notion page for newsletter notes. I am weirdly so obsessed with these pieces especially in relation to the whole tradwife movement.
